Everyone knows and loves the old comic strip where the situation is that there is 14 competing standards, and a guy says “14?! Ridiculous! We need to develop one universal standard that covers everyone’s use cases.” and his friend says “Yeah!” and then the situation is that there are 15 competing standards.
They only exacerbated the problem.
When looking at that again today, I was like… “How do we not do that?” And I came up with one thing, this won’t fix everything completely, but if you find yourself in the situation of the guy in the comic, going “14?! Ridiculous?” and you wanna get to coding…
Make tools! Converters, adapters, gateways, libraries, multi-protocol apps…
Figure out ways to use what’s there and to make what’s there better.
