I have a super diverse skillset and can do a very wide variety of things… and it all just happens to be stuff that’s obsoleted by ML 💁🏻♀️
“Knowledge work”, art, music, programming, curating, and other useless things.
In some sense it’s a relief that the entire office work industry, office culture is gonna be way less of a thing. Just like it’s not really a job to clean up typewritten letters from shorthand dictation, at least not as pervasive as that job used to be, so a lot of other tedious and soul-crushing white-collar jobs can finally be over. School’s out forever.
I just don’t know what to do instead, is all.
“But why don’t you just get a whole fleet of AI yourself and make the same sorta stuff you used to make but more efficiently?” That sounds fun, I’d love that. I maybe could even manage to finish a comic for once in my life. But who would wanna read such a thing when they could just be hanging out with their own AI pals instead?
“But how about participatory art? Interacting arts? Run some roleplaying games, you primitive screwhead!” Now there’s an idea! Hanging out with real people is still fun.
Although even there, the bots apparently have a lot to offer: in one of the IRC channels I’m in they’ve hooked up a GPT bot and everyone is talking to the bot instead of with each other.
Ho hum.
